Poll reveals EV charging an important factor for Londoners moving house

Six in 10 London motorists will consider the availability of on-street electric car charging in an area if they were to move house in the next five years, according to a new poll* of more than 1,000 city residents.

By comparison, a much smaller third of residents polled said they would not consider electric car charging options if looking to move.

The poll was conducted by Zest, one of London’s largest EV charging networks, which currently has active partnerships with Hackney Council, Transport for London and Brent Council.  

Zest’s figures bring into sharp focus the need for London boroughs, and other cities in the UK, to keep rolling out new infrastructure over the next five years as millions begin to transition their vehicles to electric, and particularly in a part of the country where off-street domestic charging is rare.

“Many London councils are already surging ahead deploying thousands of on-street electric car chargers for residents. What our poll reveals is that we need to keep that momentum up and build it out to other boroughs, because the demand is clearly there from Londoners who are looking to move house over the next five years.  

“It is worth remembering, by installing on-street chargers, we do not just make it easier for London motorists to switch to EV, but in turn all residents end up benefiting from quieter streets and cleaner air, which is particularly important in cities like London.”
