Zest sponsors Best EV Charging Project category at the MJ local government achievement awards

Zest is sponsoring the Best EV Charging Project award category at the MJ awards. The awards recognise outstanding achievement in local government. The MJ is the UK’s leading weekly magazine for council chief executives and their teams of decision-makers in local authorities and allied sectors.

Local authorities are energetically supporting the switch to EV as part of their decarbonisation strategies. Installing public charge points is a central element, enabling drivers to charge their cars within their daily routine, and serving the 30% of people who don’t have access to a driveway for EV charging.

Recent figures from the SMMT highlight the size of the challenge. From January to September 2021, for every 52 EVs sold only one public charge point was installed.

“An abundance of public EV charge points is needed across the UK to bring EV into the mainstream and to prevent a two-speed society where only those with driveways can easily go electric,” said Paul Ford, Chief Development Officer at Zest. “We’re delighted to be joining the MJ in celebrating the innovative work done by local authorities to make EV charging available to all.”

Judges will be looking for entries showing innovative projects that have increased the availability of public EV charge points, promoted wider EV adoption across society, and stimulated the local economy.  If you are a local authority running an outstanding EV charging project, then you should enter it for the MJ awards.
